Medical tourism looks up and set to rise more in India;
As the rupee continues to plummet, more and more patients from abroad are coming to India to undergo complex surgeries at affordable rates. Private Hospitals in south India say they have seen a 10% to 15% increase in medical tourism in the past one year. While part of it can be attributed to the falling rupee and bigger picture spells and strain on the hospital’s pocket as they procure most of their medical supplies from abroad.
India is popular with patients from Middle East, Africa and SAARC countries and the most common procedures they come here for are cardiac surgery, neuro surgery, spine and joint surgery, cancer treatments, organ transplants. Managers of other private hospitals report similar developments. The hospitals have also seen increase of patients from Gulf after Ramzan. The expected growth in the next 10-20 years is expected to grow at 30%.
